The local Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady and St. Joseph commissioned Joe to paint the Lady Chapel wall and the shrine for Blessed Christopher Robinson with a back drop of 16th Century Carlisle.

During the months of May and June in 2004 Joe painted the wall behind St. Joseph's statue. the mural depicts the carpenter's workshop where St. Joseph would have spent much of his time. Joe gave this explanation of his work:
"Instead of attempting to paint ancient Nazareth, I pinched an idea from some of the great Florentine fresco artists by setting the whole thing in a contemporary, familiar landscape, recognisable to the community using our church, the Eden valley."
In 2006 Joe was again commissioned by the church to paint the entire east wall of the high altar including new art work behind the crucifix and enhancement of eight new figures in the alcoves on either side.
